Last month (14th of October 2012) saw the record for the highest manned balloon flight broken by daredevil skydiver Felix Baumgartner. Before jumping out and returning back to earth at supersonic speeds, the 43 year old Austrian travelled to a height of 128,100ft in the specially made balloon.
To put this into perspective, Aerosaurus Balloon flights usually take place at somewhere between 3000ft and 5000ft and don’t require you to wear a spacesuit!
The balloon Felix used is an astonishing 30 million cubic feet in capacity (our biggest balloon comes in at 317,000 cubit feed) and uses high-performance polyethylene film only 0.0008 inches thick. Once fully upright the balloon is the same height as a 55 story building! We often get comments from first time fliers expressing shock at just how large a hot air balloon is when viewed up close, but Felix’s balloon really is huge.
When Aerosaurus Balloons take passengers out on a balloon flight we aim for the set-up to last no longer than 1 hour, the balloon used for this record breaking balloon flight took around 8 hours!
As you can see there are a lot of differences between pleasure flights and record breaking flights but whether you’re looking to be the next Felix Baumgartner or just want a relaxing flight over the South West of England, call our offices on 01404 823102, or visit our website, to find out more information.
