TIVERTON’S Two Rivers Festival (2RivTiv) is taking place next month and this year it features hot air balloon rides!
In place of the annual Tiverton Balloon & Music Festival which won’t be going ahead this year, Aerosaurus Balloons are proud to be offering Hot Air Balloon flights from the 2016 2RivTiv Festival. Tickets are available to new or existing passengers for rides on Saturday 9th July in the morning or evening, and for flights on the morning of Sunday 10th July. To reserve your place on a balloon visit the Aerosaurus website or call the booking office on 01404 823 325.
The festival takes place in the grounds of Tiverton High School (Bolham Rd, Tiverton EX16 6SQ) and runs from Friday, July 8 to Monday, July 11.
There is a live music day featuring four local bands and headlined by Soul Traders’ who will be performing on the outdoor stage until late. Jon Sowden, partnership director at THS said
“As well as music, we are delighted to say that there will be Hot Air Balloons on site, who will do an evening ascent and a light up display to the stage music when the sun goes down. We have been working with the local balloonists to ensure that there is still participation from them over the weekend, as we felt the people of the town would really miss seeing them flying or taking part in the festival. It’s all weather dependant, but the balloons will do a mass ascent from the high school grounds on two early mornings and one evening during the weekend.”
Arthur Street, the organiser of the previous balloon festivals in the town said,
“Although this is not the full balloon festival, Aerosaurus Balloons and local private balloonists are delighted to have been invited back to Tiverton High School in support of Two Rivers Festival. This festival is a credit to the pupils and staff and brings an opportunity for members of the public to enjoy a diverse range of live outdoor entertainment of a high standard.”
One of the successes of last summer’s festival, held in the grounds of Tiverton High School, was a performance of ‘The Lion King’ by local young people. This year, more than 500 local children will perform an outdoor production of Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’.
Another highlight of the TwoRivTiv programmed will be an outdoor production of William Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’ to mark the 400th anniversary of the playwright’s death with a ‘bring your own picnic and deckchair’ theme.
A food marquee will also be on site, with local hot food traders ready to feed the crowd. This is being arranged with help from the Electric Nights team, who put regular food nights on at Tiverton’s Pannier Market. Zoe Lentell, who helps to organise these nights said, “We are delighted to be helping the TCLP with this festival. As well as hot food to suit everyone, there will be some tasty sweet stands and of course ice creams for the warm summer evenings!”
This year’s event runs from Friday, July 8 to Monday, July 11. Tickets for 2RivTiv are available from The Busy Bee, Fore Street, Tiverton and Tiverton Tourist Information. Tickets can also be purchased online from www.TCLP.org.uk.
